Labyrinth D.L.O

Yesterday we watched a movie called the Labyrinth. We watched it until it got to the part where Sarah rescues her little brother Toby. Today we got to finish the ending and to rewind and watch some of the scenes to help us fill out our form. My best part of the movie was when Hoggle the goblin was found peeing in the pond. I enjoyed this activity and hope to do it again.

Tahuna Torea Reflection

For our trip to Tahuna Torea we got to have a little but of fun but our main learning behind it were that we got to see where the Godwit/Kuaka eat. The sites were so beautiful from the dry land. Walking for a hike was a great learning because we saw different flowers we haven't seen before. Having to play at the playground made us have fun and make new friends.

Kuaka Migration - Reading

This morning we started off the day with reading. We got separated into different groups. For this lesson we were leaning about God wits (Kuaka) and their migration.  Our group was called the A team of R.E.A.D. The first task we had to complete was the Question Matrix. Now the one thing we couldn't do was, to research our questions. We could only use the knowledge that we already knew. We call this our Prior Knowledge. A prior knowledge is when you already know something. I think this was a good way of learning what their migration is all about.

Athletics

Today we had Athletics for the year. Today was a bad weather and it was raining all morning. But the rain couldn't put us down so we did it in the rain. The year 7's got split into 3 groups and had to compete. The year 8's got split into 3 groups and had to compete against each other. For the year 8's the first activity was in the hall and it was Rob The Nest. We had fun and showed a lot of participation while playing this game and our group came 1st. The next activity was the sponge relay and it was a lot of fun. Some of our players splashed the others to get a lead. Out of all the fun we had, our team won and came 1st. Next game was the long jump. Now this was very tricky because the grass was slippery. All we had to do was to see who could jump the furthest. Unfortunately we lost and came 2nd place. We had to more activity's to complete and out of those 2 we came 2nd in a row. We would like to thank Mr Ogilivie for organizing all of these activities and the staff members and the parents who came down and supported this event. I want to just say a huge thank you for all the groups who showed a lot of team work and team spirit in all the activities. We would also like thank the Tamaki College students for running all the different activities.

Our Group Reading Challenge - Pigeons

For the last week or so we have been working hard on this Reading Follow Up Challenge. In my group we showed a lot of team work, communicating to others and getting the task done. For this challenge we were learning about pigeons. We were finding out if they were special or just pests. We had some interesting opinions from each of our group members. Our group synthesized the main ideas to create one statement. Our leaning intention was to identify the main ideas in the text.

The 5 Minutes Recount - Ana, Cecillia & Victoria

Yesterday in writing we were starting on writing recounts. But the only thing that was different about this recount, was that we only had to write 1 story in 5 minutes! We had to pick a partner but I worked in a group of 3 and to write a story using this picture above. Our teacher said we had to sit back to back without talking. We each took a turn each writing a sentences. The 5 minutes was over and we couldn't believe we could write that in 5 minutes.

Smart Searching Challenge

This is a presentation that my partner Ana and I have created. For the past week or 2 we have been practicing on how to research a question using 5 keywords, but this time it's different. We had a website that helped us pick out a a letter, and the letter we got was "K". The first thing that popped up with Knight. Ana and I decided to research about knights. But first we had to come up with interesting and powerful questions to help us. One of the questions were "Were there any girl knights?". After answering all those questions we put in some intersecting facts about Knights and our resources. We learnt a lot from cyber-smart and Knights.

This is a D.L.O that i have created with my partner Mere. We have been working on what the difference between Dehydration and Hydration. We have been working really hard and trying to compare the differences between the 2. We have learnt a lot and now, Dehydration means that you are not receiving enough water into your body, and Hydration is when you drink enough water to keep you focused through out the day.

The Reading Challenge

Today in reading we were working on a collaborative reading activity. Our teacher didn't say anything but to show us what we were doing on the Casting T.V. In my group I had Manu, Nesi and Tiare. Our first challenge was to read a book together and then rewrite 25 words of what happened in the story. We had 2 more challenges and a super challenge. We got to finish off our super challenge which was hard to complete. Some didn't make sense and some didn't go with the rest. Unfortunate we didn't complete it but it was a fun challenge. I hope that we get to do it again.
